Ask many Spaniards what their plans are for the weekend or holidays and they will likely tell you they will be going to "mi cortijo" or "my place in the country". The Spanish love getting away from it all and returning to their rural roots even if "their cortijo" is little more than a ruin without running water or electricity.
Our Cortijo has, thankfully, been fully restored and enjoys all modern luxuries including a private swimming pool. It is set on the outskirts of a small taditional farming hamlet inbetween fields of almond and olive trees. There are uninterupted views of the mountains of the Los Filabres and Sierra de Baza Natural Parks just a few kilometres to the southwest. We are sufficiently far from the tourist resorts to enjoy a truely traditional Spain but we are also close enough to take advantage of the resorts facilities when the mood takes.
We are now well integrated into the local Spanish community and have the knowledge to guide our guests to a memorable taste of Andalucian life |
